| Q | 6. How can I upload my Web Page to the RXN server? |
| A |
The RXN web server serves the file named index.html located in the
public_html directory, under your home home directory, as the
default DirectoryIndex for requests made to your URL directory without a
specific file name.
A default index.html file has been placed in the public_html directory under your home directory to get you started. You may modify this file and add additional web pages, or directories, to your public_html directory using any one of a number of web publishing tools, such as Netscape Composer, Adobe PageMill, or, if you are really good, a plain text editor. You can transfer web pages you create off line to your public_html directory by FTP 'ing to www.rxn.com using your email user name and password. You are chroot'ed to your home directory, but will need to cd public_html to change to the served directory. In Netscape Composer, you can specify ftp://www.rxn.com/public_html. Please contact support@rxn.com if you have any difficulty. $Id: 6,v 1.4 2004/03/28 04:04:44 rjd Exp $ |

| Q | 9. How can I install and run cgi-bin scripts? |
| A |
The RXN web server is configured to allow users to run cgi-bin
scripts using Nathan Neulinger's
cgiwrap
. The
cgiwrap
wrapper allows users to install and run cgi-bin scripts under their
own user ID (instead of the server's) from the /public_html/cgi-bin
directory under their home directory using the following link syntax:
http://www.rxn.com/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/username/demo.plwhere username is the user's login name and demo.pl is the name of the script to be run. The /public_html/cgi-bin directory should be owned by the user with permissions of 711. The cgi-bin script should be owned by the user with permissions of 500. General information about cgi-bin scripts can be found through the following links:

| Q | 12. How can I install and run JavaScript? |
| A |
JavaScript scripts are supported by the RXN web server. JavaScript is a platform-independent, event-driven, interpreted programming language developed by Netscape Communications Corporation and Sun Microsystems . Originally called LiveScript (and still called LiveWireTM by Netscape in its compiled, server-side incarnation), JavaScript is affiliated with Sun's object-oriented programming language Java TM primarily as a marketing convenience. They inter-operate well but are technically, functionally and behaviorally very different. You can see some JavaScript examples running on the RXN server here. $Id: 12,v 1.2 2000/11/22 06:35:25 rjd Exp $ |
